Let’s start by saying that, and despite the obvious name, this Italian seasoning mix, or Italian herbs, is not limited to Italian dishes, Italian food, or Italian cooking in general; and can be used in tons of ways!
Italian seasoning makes a great marinade to any recipe using chicken, beef, or fish! It kind of gives the overall flavor an extra something something.
You can also sprinkle it over vegetables, toast and bread, pasta dishes, pasta sauces, pizza sauce, soups, and lasagna!
Finally, and one of my personal favorites, try mixing it with a bit of oil and vinegar to make a quick Italian salad dressing!

Tip 1: It is better to store your own blend in a dry place (spice rack/spice cabinet), away from heat and direct sunlight to ensure they stay fresh and aromatic for longer.
Tip 2: Keep your homemade seasoning blend at room temperature. You don’t have to worry about refrigerating it.
Tip 3: You will notice that some recipes might call for adding sage, red chili flakes (or red pepper flakes), parsley, and marjoram to the spice blend. That’s the beauty of homemade blends, you can tailor it to your preferences!

It is really up to you whether you choose to use already opened containers of dried herbs, or dry fresh herbs on your own. The aromatic results are all that matters!
If you are using already opened store-bought blends of herbs, then expect a 3-month shelf life. However, if you are making your own homemade Italian seasoning from freshly purchased herb blends, then it should last you for about a year (or 2-3 years sometimes).
