Ingredients

For the Sauce

  • 3 tbsp. olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp. maple syrup honey or sugar
  • 2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
  • tsp. orange zest
  • 1 tbsp. starch
  • ½ cup water

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  • Lay the chicken breast flat on a clean surface, then cut in half horizontally to make the chicken breast thinner.
  • Cube the chicken, then place in a bowl. Drizzle olive oil then add the garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  • Place the cubed chicken on a prepared parchment paper sprayed with cooking oil spray. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, make the orange sauce. Mix 1 tablespoon of starch with 1/2 cup of cold water until dissolved.
  • In a medium skillet, add the olive oil and cook the minced garlic and minced ginger for 1 minute.
  • Following that, add the orange juice, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, maple syrup or sugar, orange zest, and the 1/2 cup of dissolved starch on high heat.
  • Mix until sauce has thickened. Taste, then adjust the salt by adding more soy sauce or maple syrup to your liking.
  • Add the cooked cube chicken to the sauce and mix until the chicken is fully coated. Enjoy with aside of rice or quinoa and steamed broccoli.

Tips for Delicious Results
  1. Make sure you don't over-crowd your chicken pieces. Place them as a single layer for the best results.
  2. Garnish your sticky orange chicken with green onion, sesame seeds, garlic salt, or red pepper flakes!
  3. I would definitely recommend using fresh oranges and fresh orange juice for this recipe. Don't get me wrong, store-bought orange juice or orange marmalade work just fine; but fresh juice gives the recipe an extra kick!
