Thick Red Lentil Soup (Adas Majroush)

  • 4 tablespoons avocado oil⁣
  • 2 tablespoons butter optional
  • 1 onion large
  • 3 cups red lentils
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 cup short grain rice
  • 2 bouillon cubes
  • pinch seven spices
  • ½ cup parsley chopped


  • First, add the oil and butter to a medium pot on high heat. Then, add in the cubed onion and sauté until caramelized. ⁣
  • After washing and soaking the red lentils and rice for 10 minutes (in one bowl), drain the water then add them to the pot. ⁣
  • After that, pour in the 6 cups of water, bouillon cubes, salt ,and a pinch of 7 spices. Allow to boil, then simmer for 20 minutes stirring occasionally. Garnish with chopped parsley and enjoy alone, veggies or with pita bread.
