  • 2 25.5 oz black beans drained, rinsed, and patted
  • 1 medium onion quartered
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 cup mixed bell peppers chopped
  • 1 cup old fashioned oats or oat flour
  • ½ cup all purpose flour or whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
  • ½ tablespoon smoked paprika
  • ½ tablespoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons chia seed mix with 6 tablespoons of water; soak for 5 minutes

  • Using a food processor or a Vitamix, add in the old fashioned oats if they are whole, and grind until it turns into oat flour. You can skip this step if you are using oat flour.
  • Then, add in the rest of the ingredients and pulse until all ingredients are combined but so that you still see slight chunks of the black beans.
  • Transfer to a bowl.
  • Rub your hand with cooking oil spray. Form a 3-4 inch of the mix and begin to shape into a patty then place right on griddle at medium heat. Cook for about 5 minutes on each side.
  • You can place the patties on small tray lined with parchment paper to freeze them for 10 minutes before grilling so that they are firmer and easier to handle.
  • Top with your favorite condiments. Enjoy!
