- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 4 tablespoons caramel 4 Werther's Original Soft Caramels
In a mug, add the egg and whisk it. Then, add in the milk, and vegetable oil, and whisk again.
Now, add in the dry ingredients. Mix flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Whisk well until all ingredients are combined and you have a smooth batter.
Next, add 4 tablespoons of caramel to the top of the batter or drop in 4 Werther's caramels into the batter.
Then, microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds on high (90 seconds total). If the batter is still wet, continue microwaving for 10 seconds at a time until it is cooked.
Finally, remove and enjoy warm. Sprinkle powdered sugar on top or add more melted caramel to the top or center of the mug cake.
Check out these notes.
#1: It is better to choose a cappuccino mug or a large mug for the chocolate caramel mug cake. It will come out in the perfect size. Make sure it is a microwave-safe mug.
#2: Measure the ingredients accurately. You do not want to end up with a flat and/or dry chocolate mug cake.
#3: Don't overmix your batter. You might end up with a dense chewy chocolate mug cake.
#4: Make sure that your microwave is set on high power. If it is low, this will slow the baking process and extend the cooking time. The final cake will not be the same.
#5: Clean up the empty part of the mug with a wet paper towel. If you want, you can mix the ingredients in a small bowl and then pour them into the mug to get clean edges.
