Ingredients

Chicken Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 10 tablespoons flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 3 chicken breast fillets chopped into bite size chunks

Sauce Ingredients

  • 2 cloves garlic peeled and minced
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce

Instructions

  • For the sauce, mix all ingredients well and set them aside.
  • Heat the oil in a wok or large frying pan until very hot.
  • Meanwhile, place the egg in one bowl and the corn flour in another bowl. Add the flour, salt, pepper, garlic and paprika to another bowl and mix together.
  • After that, coat the chicken in the corn flour very well, then add the eggs (make sure all of the chicken is covered in egg wash), and finally add in the seasoned flour and mix well. Remove chicken then place in a separate plate, leave remaining left over egg wash behind.
  • Add chicken to the heated pot and cook on high heat for 6-7 minutes, turning two or three times during cooking, until well browned.
  • Toss in the sauce to coat. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Enjoy rice and top with sesame seeds and cilantro.

Notes

Important Tips:
  • You can make the sauce a day or two in advance and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to eat.
  • The key to keeping this honey sesame chicken crispy after adding the sauce is to avoid drenching the chicken in sauce. The chicken should be generously coated, but not drowning in sauce.
  • Avoid adding too many pieces of chicken into the hot oil at once. If you put too many pieces of chicken in the oil at once, the temperature of the oil will drop.
  • Make sure the oil reaches a temperature of at least 350 degrees Fahrenheit. If the chicken is added to the oil too soon, it will become greasy as it cooks.
