How to Pickle Onion

Ingredients

  • 1 medium red onion
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ cup white vinegar
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • teaspoon maple syrup or honey
  • teaspoon fine salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper flakes

Instructions

  • Cut onions into thin slices and place them in a jar.
  • Add the water, salt,maple syrup or honey, vinegar, and pepper flakes in a pan and bring to a boil.
  • Pour the mixture that was boiled over the onions in the jar.
  • Leave the onions to cool down at room temperature.
  • Cover the onions with the lid and put them in the fridge.

Notes

  • Cut onions into small-sized rings. This helps the onions to absorb the vinegar as it can sit overnight and let all flavors soak in.
  • Go for more than one type of vinegar. You can go for regular white vinegar but make it more interesting by adding apple cider vinegar. This makes flavors different and unique.
