Immunity Shot Ingredients
Here’s how each of the ingredients in this immunity shot nourishes, fuels, and boosts your body in the following ways:
Lemon: Lemon is high in Vitamin C and is known to have antiviral and antibacterial properties.
Orange: Orange is high in vitamin C and beta-cryptoxanthin, a carotenoid that your body converts to vitamin A.
Ginger contains gingerol, which can help reduce the risk of infection and inhibit the growth of a variety of bacteria.
Turmeric: Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, is known to be a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.
Black pepper: Adding a pinch of black pepper to your turmeric increases the absorption of curcumin by nearly 2000%!
Ingredient Highlight: Turmeric
Turmeric is a vibrant yellow spice that not only adds a warm, earthy flavor to dishes but also boasts impressive health benefits. This plant grows in India, Asia, and Central America and is related to ginger. Known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, turmeric is often used in curries, soups, and rice dishes.
It pairs beautifully with ingredients like garlic, ginger, and coconut milk, making it a versatile addition to both savory and sweet recipes. Plus, it adds a stunning color that can elevate any dish visually!
The turmeric root can be used to make juices, such as this turmeric shot recipe, or powdered for dried spices.
The yellow compound curcumin found in turmeric has antioxidant properties and may reduce inflammation.
Why Add Black Pepper?
It is suggested that if you use turmeric for its health benefits, you also use black pepper. This is due to the presence of piperine in black pepper, which may increase the absorption of curcumin while providing its own benefits like relieving nausea, headaches, and poor digestion.
How to Drink It
Energy shots can be quite strong, so it is best to drink them like shots! Simply tilt the cup back and swallow it. I like to serve it in small shot glasses, as you can see in the picture.
You can always drink this ginger and turmeric shot like turmeric juice. It all depends on your preference! I suggest trying it as a shot first before pouring a huge glass of it.
Storage Tip
Store in an airtight glass bottle or jar in the fridge for up to 5 days. Shake well before each use as ingredients may settle.
Recipe Tips
You can replace the raw turmeric root with powdered turmeric.
You can add honey to your juice mix (optional).
For an added boost of Vitamin C, you can throw in a red pepper.
If you don’t have a juicer, you can use a blender. Add the ingredients to the blender, and pulse until well blended. You can add a little water to help ease blending.
Strain with a fine strainer, cheesecloth and squeeze all the liquid out.
Frequently Asked Questions FAQs:
Generally, the sooner you drink freshly squeezed juice, the more nutrients are available. However, this juice can easily be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
You can start your day with one shot and take another one in the evening.
If your turmeric and ginger are organic, you can juice them without peeling them! If they are not organic, you may want to peel them before juicing, or at the very least thoroughly wash them.
It is advised that you only take one shot on an empty stomach. This should allow your body to reap the benefits of turmeric, ginger, and black pepper, without causing stomach discomfort.
You can use powdered versions of the two spices in this hot. If you do, I recommend adding more liquid, such as water or citrus juice. Powdered spices are less potent than the root-based version.
Turmeric adds a vibrant natural color to any food and it also has a strong, earthy, and spicy flavor similar to ginger. This makes it ideal for savory dishes and spice blends.
