Cilantro Mint Chutney Ingredients

Mint Cilantro Chutney can be prepared with only a few ingredients.

Cilantro: One of the main ingredients in this chutney is fresh cilantro leaves

Mint: Fresh mint leaves are the second main ingredient. This chutney can also be made with just cilantro.

Green Chili: I make this chutney with two green chilis. However, you are free to increase the spiciness by adding more.

Garlic: Garlic Cloves add a lot of flavor to the chutney. Make sure not to overdo it.

Ginger: Ginger, like garlic, adds a wonderful flavor to the chutney.
Roasted cumin powder: This, in my opinion, is a must-have for this chutney. You can use store-bought cumin powder or make your own.

Lemon juice or lime juice: These add tanginess to the chutney and maintain its vibrant green color.

Salt and honey: To balance the flavor.

Variations on Green Chutney Cilantro Mint

This bright sauce is known as green chutney or coriander mint chutney and can be found all over India, but especially in the north. It is relatively simple, but the ingredients can vary.

Itis typically made with both cilantro (coriander) and mint, but it can be made with just one or the other. When people talk about pudhina chutney (mint chutney), they frequently include cilantro. The two complement each other extremely well in terms of flavor balance.

Serving Suggestions

It’s no surprise that Mint Coriander Chutney is a crowd-pleaser. This is due not only to the chutney’s refreshing flavors and bright colors, but also to the fact that it can be paired with a variety of dishes.

This Dhaniya Pudina Chutney goes well with samosa, kabab, Corn Fritters, Bombay Masala Toast, mushroom cutlet, roasted vegetables and main courses like biryani.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Why is my green chutney bitter?

The mint can become bitter if over-blended. Blend just enough to combine the mint leaves.

Why has my chutney turned dark in color?

Once again, mint is to blame! Mint leaves oxidize quickly and can become dark. It is recommended that you add enough lime juice to help prevent oxidation. If you are storing the chutney in the fridge, make sure to seal the jar tightly, otherwise the chutney will turn dark. It won’t affect the taste, though.

How long does green chutney last?

You can store the green chutney for up to a week in an airtight container in the refrigerator. You can also freeze green chutney. Just pour it into ice cube trays and freeze. Transfer the frozen ice cubes to a zip-lock bag and use them as necessary.

Top Tips

  • Use ice cold water when you blend the ingredients. This will ensure that your green chutney will have a vibrant green color.
  • Be careful not to over mixing the chutney. Overmixing might result in a bitter flavor.
  • Refrigerate your chutney as soon as you make it if you don’t plan to use it. This will help keep it bright green.
  • You can skip the green chiles if you want less heat. You can also add more if you like it very hot.
  • Don’t skip the lemon juice. Lemon juice helps maintain its bright green color.
  • Use only the cilantro and mint leaves. The addition of stems can give the chutney a bitter taste.
