A woman named Alexandra Johnsson, behind the simplefood4u account on TikTok, has a viral video on the folded tortilla trend that has had nearly more than 59 million views! But, she isn’t the original creator of the trend. In fact, it’s still unknown exactly who started the trend. Alexandra said that she had previously seen the trend on TikTok a few times and decided to make a video recreating what she had seen. She had no idea it would blow up into the viral sensation it has become!

The trend first became popular on TikTok, and is still going strong! Also, the trend has gained momentum on Instagram and there are countless videos up on YouTube. The videos can be addictive on any social media platform because of the great variety of ingredients used to create the dish raiding homes worldwide!

Ingredients 

  • 1 Tortilla of your choice, preferably larger in size
  • zaatar spread, equal parts zaatar spice and olive oil mixed
  • 2 tablespoons feta cheese
  • 3 tablespoons scrambled eggs
  • 3 tablespoons mashed avocados

Instructions 

  • Cut the tortilla from the center of it outward to the edge.
  • Add your favorite fillings or spreads. On the first quarter you can add the mashed avocado, the second quarter add the zaatar spread which is zaatar spice mixed with olive oil, the 3rd quarter add the feta cheese, then the last quarter add the scrambled eggs.
  • Fold by starting on one of the slit/cut sides and fold over. Put into a panini press, toaster oven, or a preheated skillet until crisp. Enjoy!
