What is Rice Pudding
The simplest way to describe rice pudding is rice cooked in sweetened milk. The best way to describe it is a sweet treat that can be adapted in more ways than you can imagine!
That’s what I love about rice pudding. It’s a great option since you can add different ingredients without taking away from its originality. In essence, a rice pudding is a warm dessert that is filling and full of flavor.
Looks So Delicious!
Blossom Water or Rose Water
You can use blossom water and rose water sometimes interchangeably and that’s ok. But, let me tell you why they are actually quite different.
Blossom water is the distilled clear by-product of bitter orange blossoms. It’s final product is a sweet and aromatic liquid that adds a delicious flavor to anything it’s added to.
It’s a popular ingredient in dessert syrups across the Middle East and a favorite addition to many Middle Eastern desserts. Notably, rice pudding!!

Rose water is distilled liquid from rose petals using steam. Rose water has many uses, from perfumes to medical uses, but most significantly used as an aromatic food flavoring.
Furthermore, it’s used popularly and widely across the Middle East just like blossom water. The dessert syrup I mentioned before also includes rose water, but it’s not an either/or situation. The syrup needs both rose water and blossom water to get the perfect flavor.
Can’t Resist The Flavor!
Oatmeal
Oatmeal simply put is rolled oats cooked in either milk or water, or a combo of both. To put it best, oatmeal is a versatile breakfast option.
Best known for keeping us full for longer, it also marries well with fruits and spices which means it can be eaten in a variety of ways. Sound familiar? Exactly! Just like rice pudding! That’s why I knew overlapping these recipes was sure to be a hit, and it is!

Tips
- If you prefer the oatmeal pudding thicker you can use less milk, and if anyone prefers it runnier the way I do, simply add a little milk to your bowl.
- For extra creaminess (and sweetness), you can substitute a portion of the milk for sweetened condensed milk and simmer on low for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- To get a cookie/cake-like flavor, you can throw in some vanilla sugar or vanilla extract.
Oatmeal Pudding Drizzled with Yummy Honey
- To make it fun, you can create a buffet of toppings on a board or in small bowls across the table and kids, family, or guests can walk across and choose their favorite toppings.
- You can add cinnamon or nutmeg or both to the pudding while cooking it for extra flavor!
- If you don’t have blossom water you can use rose water. You can also use a little of both for an extra aromatic delight!

Frequently asked questions
Of course! Just keep in mind that some of these milk options are sometimes sweetened so it may affect the flavor if you’re planning on adding blossom water or other sweet toppings.
In terms of thickness, milk or water make little difference. But milk does affect flavor, especially depending on what type of milk is being used.
It doesn’t directly help in weight loss, but it does support a diet which is directed at losing weight. It’s a great breakfast choice because it keeps you full longer and helps suppress appetite.
