Who doesn’t love a classy Strawberry Cheesecake roll? Well, imagine one with an original twist that will get your taste buds dancing.
Now, imagine your friends and family clambering to get the recipe from you! All great feelings, right? LOL! That’s how I felt when I first made this special roll cake and it has gotten so many rave reviews from loved ones and followers on my Insta page, I just had to share it with you all!
Different versions of cake rolls
You’ve probably heard this type of cake called many different things. Perhaps, the most popular Yule Log, traditionally a Christmas dessert, is one what would easily come to mind.
A favorite when I was growing up were Little Debbie chocolate swiss roll cakes covered in a thicker solid fudge coating with yummy, super sugar cream filling. Yum!
Very commonly called a swiss roll cake, we automatically know that it is a cake that is rolled with cream filling separating its rolled layers. Also, famously known as jelly rolls since many of these types of rolled cakes have some kind of jelly filling along with the cream.
Some variations include a Bavarian cream and chocolate swiss roll cake, chocolate cream and chocolate cake swill roll, cinnamon roll cakes, lemon swiss roll, a tiramisu roll cake, and even a carrot swiss roll cake.
That’s the great thing about this type of cake, you can take your favorite flavor combos and come up with something really yummy.
My Strawberry Cheesecake Roll recipe is so enjoyable because the cheesecake filling is so light and the sponge cake is so fluffy. Combined with delicious fresh strawberries on top and a strawberry filling and it’s cake heaven!
Whatever you prefer to call it, this cake is amazing and a lot easier to make than you might think. It’s often associated with more advanced cake-making techniques.
Though it is a sensitive cake to make, it’s by no means an impossible or difficult feat. Give it a try and always remember, practice makes perfect!
Why make this specific vanilla sponge cake recipe?
Other than the fact that it’s perfectly fluffy and absolutely divine in taste? Well, it’s a more full-proof recipe to follow. Remember earlier when I mentioned that swiss roll cakes are generally thought to be more difficult?
That’s because they require a certain texture and technique so that they don’t break or crumble when you’re actually rolling them.
This recipe offers you just that! A sure way to make this type of cake without a disastrous ending.
Plus, you more than likely already have the ingredients available to you in your kitchen right now!
Tips to Remember
- watch the oven closely when cooking the cake because overcooking will make the cake impossible to roll
- roll when cake is still warm, waiting too long will cause it to crumble or crack
- use parchment paper to get an easier peel when removing your cake or cook on a good silicone mat
- wrap the cake with a towel or in parchment paper while rolling and let it sit for a while, then unroll and that will make it easier for you to roll it back after putting in the filling and prevents any kind of cracking
- if rolling in parchment paper, dust the paper with a little bit of powdered sugar to make for an easier rolling process
- be careful not to overstuff with the filling or it will overflow or cause cracking in your cake
- if your cake cracks a little, don’t sweat it you can cover cracks with fruit, powdered sugar, icing, or even a ganache
A touch of creativity
It’s always a wonderful feeling to replicate a recipe perfectly. But, it’s an even better feeling when you can add your own touches of creativity.
Sure my recipe calls for strawberries, but maybe you have blueberries or raspberries. Switch it up! Don’t like cheesecake, make a meringue cream or butter cream filling. It’s your cake, your taste buds, do what YOU want!

The cake roll
These are the steps to make this fancy strawberry cake roll!
- First, Preheat the oven to 350F. Line with parchment paper and spray a 12X16 inch baking tray with cooking spray.
- In a small bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
- In a medium bowl add in the eggs, sugar and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer until foamy. Add in the oil and blend. Gradually add flour mixture.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking tray and spread evenly into the corners using the back of a spatula.
- Bake for 13-15 minutes or until done. Take a kitchen towel and generously sprinkle with powdered sugar. This helps the cake not stick to the towel.
