Does an Alfredo Sauce work without cheese?

Although a traditional Alfredo sauce calls for milk or heavy cream and cheese, I promise you that the combination of ingredients in this recipe will make you forget about them. You will hardly notice a difference.

Why do we need two types of milk?

The sweetness of the coconut milk balances and masks the nuttiness of the oat milk to create a flavorful creamy base for your creamy Alfredo sauce.

Store your leftover sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for about 4 days. It also freezes well once placed in a freezer-friendly container.

Recipe Variations

I know… You may be thinking that there isn’t much to swap, change, or add to this dairy-free sauce recipe, but I may surprise you with a few tricks up my sleeve!

First, if you are a fan of a good zesty flavor, then add a squeeze of lemon juice and lemon zest to the garlic, and season the sauce with fresh black pepper.

Now this recipe isn’t exactly made with staple ingredients found in the pantry; so if you are out of oat milk substitute it with homemade cashew cream.

The process is really simple: start by boiling raw cashews for about 7–10 minutes. Let it cool in cold water, then transfer it to a food processor. Add nut milk (non-dairy milk) or water until you attain a smooth consistency.

Finally, a homemade Alfredo sauce is all about the deep cheese flavor, right? So, if you want to trick your mind into believing he’s enjoying a moment in cheesy heaven, use vegan parmesan cheese!

Simply blend raw cashews, nutritional yeast, sea salt, and garlic powder in a food processor. Easy!
