Made with simple ingredients and loads of fun, TikTok’s Viral Chocolate Cloud Bread is a prime example of how fun baking should be!
A mix of egg whites, cocoa powder, honey, and cornstarch, this internet sensation is fluffy, airy, and dreamy with its cloud-like shape and texture!
Did I mention that it is gluten-free, high in protein, low in calories, and super adorable? Yup, you heard that right!
Chocolate Cloud Bread
A recipe the whole family can get behind, this Chocolate Cloud Bread is what dreams are made of! And with its cloud-shape? I meant that in every sense there is!
There is just something about TikTok recipes that gets me hooked every time! After the mouthwatering Taco Queso dip, viral Green Goddess salad, and the Air Fryer Pasta Chips, you just know I had to get my hands on the fluffy cloud bread!
Oh! And I have decided to make a chocolate version, because, well…everything becomes 10x better with chocolate! Duh!
What is Cloud Bread?
The original Cloud bread recipe was insanely famous amongst Atkins dieters in the 1970s.
Created as a low-carb alternative to bread, traditional cloud bread has also earned another spike in popularity as one of TikTok’s creative fun recipes, especially amongst the keto community.
A trend took off where people from all over the world went wild on baking different colored bread experiments. A fascination with the fun texture and shape made cloud bread an internet sensation overnight!
The original recipe calls for a few simple ingredients like: egg, cream of tartar, and cream cheese.
Cloud-Like Squishy Texture!
Let’s Talk Taste and Texture!
Let’s start with the best thing about this viral TikTok recipe: the shape and texture! The fluffy cloud bread is exactly as the name describes it! Beautifully fluffy and squishy, with a cloud-like texture!
Now when it comes to taste, it is light, filling, and really just reminds me of marshmallows.
Some might say that the original recipe tastes slightly of eggs, since it is only made of 3 basic ingredients-with a heavy focus on egg whites. I can’t confirm that though, since my full recipe calls for cocoa powder!
Fluffy, Filling, and Fun!

Keto Cloud Bread
Unfortunately, my recipe for the TikTok Cloud Bread is not keto-friendly, since it contains sugar.
However, good news keto-dieters! Substitute the sugar with your favorite keto sweetener, and you are good to go! (Some might even add cream cheese and herbs to the mix!)
Even More Chocolate!
Since this simple recipe might not be the perfect dessert, or the best option to satisfy a wild sweet tooth, here’s how you can make your sweet cloud bread a bit…sweeter.
Adding dark chocolate, a drop of vanilla extract, or mini chocolate chips to the mix would make a noticeable difference to the overall fluffy experience.
Hey! It might not be as scrumptious as a chocolate cake, but it will be super delicious and as charming nonetheless.
Rainbow Cloud Bread
If you are looking to do something extra magical for the kiddos, then colored cloud bread is the way to their hearts!
Instead of cocoa powder, simply add a few drops of you favorite food coloring. You can also add colorful sprinkles, or flavoring like vanilla or strawberry extract (if you are making a pink/red cloud) for a sweeter kick!
You just stumbled upon your new favorite family activity!

How to Store Chocolate Cloud Bread
It has became a known fact that the fluffy cloud bread is best enjoyed the day you make it. But just in case you do want to save some for later, here’s some storing tips!
To store: The best way to store your Chocolate Cloud Bread is by wrapping it in a paper towel for later (preferably the next day).
Do not place it in an airtight container! That would trap moisture and turn your bread into a mess.
To make in advance: Unfortunately, this chocolate cloud recipe is best made and enjoyed right out of the oven. The longer it sits, the more it will lose its fluffy texture, shape, and delicious taste.
Tips for Perfectly Fluffy Results!
Tip 1: It is easier to separate your egg whites and yolks while it is cold. However, I would recommend beating them at room temperature.
Tip 2: You can always opt for a sugar-free option by using sweeteners like stevia or Splenda, and unsweetened cocoa powder instead of the regular one.
Tip 3: Make sure your electric mixer is clean and free of any oil and fat. This is crucial while whipping the egg whites.
Delicious, Yet Super Easy to Make!
Frequently Asked Questions
Here, let me teach you the old-fashioned way! Break the egg shell into two halves over a bowl. Then, tilt the shells and allow the yolk to transfer from one shell into the other, while the whites drip into the bowl. Repeat until you get most of the whites. Easy!
It is crucial that your whipped egg whites do not contain any oil or fat. If you detect some oil or fat, then it is safe to say that you won’t be getting the results you are looking for.
The insides of the cloud bread might still be raw after baking (despite it being golden brown on the outside) if the oven temperature was too hot. You can always put it back in the oven on low temperature until it is baked through.

How is the sodium so high for having no added salt?
Egg whites have sodium .. I recommend you google the amount of sodium per egg white.
I am very new to baking. I made the mistake of using cocoa mix (like for hot chocholate) and it turned the fluffy egg whites into liquid immediately. MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING 100% CACAO! after I corrected my mistake I really enjoyed this GF treat!
Thank you for this tip Jordan!!! I only use cacao so I never realized this.
