Variations for Vegan Black Bean Burger

My recipe calls for oat flour with regular flour and chia seeds for added texture and alternatives to using only regular flour. You can choose to use quinoa instead of chia seeds. You can even swap out flour altogether and use mashed sweet potatoes to help hold the burger together. It’s important to ensure you have proper binders (what holds the patty together) and the right amounts of it. Another great option is breadcrumbs (you can use gluten free ones). You can create a combination of all these ingredients as well! Totally up to you!

For a kick of flavor, you can choose to roast the peppers and let them dry out before throwing them into the mix. You can add spices of your choice if you’re not a fan of the spices I use in my recipe. I have a great seven spices recipe that would work great in this burger mix! Want some heat? Add red chili flakes or cayenne pepper! You can even throw in some jalapeños s into the mix before you blend. There are plenty of ways to create a spicy vegan black bean burger!

You can cook them on a griddle like I do. Also, you can choose to bake them in the oven or even grill them on your gas or charcoal barbecue outside! However you feel like eating them, prepare them and really enjoy them.

Great Sides and Toppings with the Vegan Black Bean Burger

Frequently asked questions

How can I ensure the burgers don’t fall apart?

Use enough binders, or ingredients that help keep them together including: oat flour, regular flour, eggs or egg replacer, corn starch or starchy ingredients, or breadcrumbs. It’s important that they are firm. Also, you can pack them well in metal rings and be sure to cook them on medium heat.

Why do black bean burgers get mushy?

This is because it’s made of already cooked ingredients. A good trick is to be sure you dry your beans well and avoid excess moisture in any or all of your ingredients.

How do I know when a black bean burger is done?

It should have a darker, crisp exterior and the inside is no longer cold. It should altogether have a firmer touch when you press it.
