The simplest dessert recipe that’s light and perfect for fulfilling that sweet craving. Who doesn’t have a sweet tooth? Sometimes we want to indulge in dessert but don’t want all the added guilt. Well, there’s a solution to that and it’s called Pan-Fried Honey Cinnamon Bananas!

This is a great way to get fruits into your diet. There are plenty of people who don’t like to eat bananas fresh. Your kids may be of those people. So what better way to get kids, or yourself, to add bananas to your diet and get in that added potassium and other healthy vitamins and nutrients.

Vegan Butter

It’s easy to make this yummy Pan-Fried Honey Cinnamon Bananas dessert vegan. All its ingredients are already vegan, except for the butter. You can simply swap out regular butter for a vegan butter of your choice. If you don’t have vegan butter on hand, you can make your own mix!

You can blend palm, canola, soybean, flax, and olive oils and refrigerate to create a butter. Also, you can make a soy-free version by leaving out the soybean and flax oil. Furthermore, you can omit the palm oil. You can make vegan butter by mixing coconut oil, olive oil, sunflower oil. You may even use ingredients like almonds, cashews, macadamia nuts, and the brine from a can of chickpeas. Whatever flavors or textures you prefer, mix them up, and throw in the fridge for at least an hour before using. Voila! You have homemade vegan butter!

If you eat vegan and also stay away from honey, you can swap it out for maple syrup!

Bananas

For Pan-Fried Honey Cinnamon Bananas, it’s best you use ripe bananas. When buying bananas, it’s usually best to buy them when they’re still a little green so they last longer. Inevitably though, we all somehow end up with ripe bananas lol. Sometimes the family just isn’t having a banana vibe and they end up sitting on the counter longer than expected.

You can turn ripe bananas into smoothies, make banana bread or banana pancakes, or even freeze them to juice later on. Or, you can use them to make this delicious dessert that can be eaten as is, with ice cream, or even over pancakes or French toast!

Cooking Techniques for Pan-Fried Honey Cinnamon Bananas

I love my pan-fried bananas to have a crispy outside. To ensure that crisp, you heat the butter a bit before putting the bananas in. Then, you can leave them as long as necessary on one side to achieve the level of desire crispiness.

You can make them like I do, melting the butter, honey, and cinnamon together and then frying the bananas in them. Or, you can melt the butter and fry the bananas in the butter and pour the honey cinnamon mixture over them and toss. You can even swap out the honey for maple syrup if you don’t have honey on hand or aren’t a fan of honey. You can even use brown sugar instead of honey or syrup. This helps kick up the sweetness and adds to the crispiness of the banana as you fry it.

Caramelized Pan Fried Bananas

Tips for preparing Pan-Fried Honey Cinnamon Bananas

  • Add a little extra butter to create a thicker caramelization on the outside of the bananas or added crisp.
  • Crisp the bananas in butter and then toss into a thinned out mixture of honey and cinnamon.
  • Serve the pan-fried honey cinnamon bananas alone or on the side of a scoop of vanilla ice cream. You can also use as a topping for pancakes, French toast, or even over Ashta!
  • Have your kids help in preparing this dessert for a fun family activity.

How do I caramelize the bananas?

The bananas are considered caramelized when they crisp up in the honey and butter mix that you fry them in. But you can really caramelize the bananas if you add brown sugar to the butter and fry the bananas well on each side.

How ripe should the bananas be?

Ripe enough that when in their peel, they give when you press on them. But also not too soft because they might crisp on the outside and be mushy on the inside.

  2. Sounds yummy. How many bananas (or how many cups of bananas) do you use with the measures for the butter/honey/cinnamon sauce?

    1. Good question, this is an old post so I will be sure to update it. This is for 2 medium sized bananas! 🙂
